GETTING THERE: BY PLANE Czech airports: Quite a high number of small airports are located in the Czech Republic and provide good services for sporting and private pilots. There are four international airports: in Brno, Ostrava, Karlovy Vary and in Prague (the largest). Prague Ruzyne Airport: Prague International Airport is the far biggest airport in the Czech Republic. It clears more than 11 million passengers annually. The airport provides space for 203,000 aircraft per year. The number of international destinations ensured with regular flights is high, and includes more than 100 destinations for direct flights. The airport also serves for transfers. The new terminal Sever 2 (North 2) was opened in January 2006. It is intended for a comfortable and quick transport of passengers within the borders of the Schengen system. Prague Airport plans also to build a new parallel landing runway, which should be ready by 2010. Brno Turany Airport:
The Brno airport clears regular flights to the United Kingdom (London Stansted), Germany (Munich) and Prague. It also operates flights into the most tourist-frequented destinations in Greece, Spain, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Egypt, Croatia and Morocco. Ostrava Mosnov Airport: The international airport in Ostrava cleared around 300,000 passengers on its regular flight from Ostrava to Vienna, Austria (and back). Holiday flights are also provided to Hungary (Budapest), Egypt (Hurghada) and Sweden (Stockholm). Karlovy Vary Aiport: The international airport in Karlovy Vary cleared 34,957 passengers in 2006, especially to Moscow and to Monastir in summer. The first phase of a gradual modernization of the Karlovy Vary Airport started November 1, 2005, because of the improvement of technical-operational parameters of the airport with reconstruction of the landing runway. |
